First Look at Joseph Leonard, Bar and (American) Brasserie

As the magazine reveals this week, Gabe Stulman named his new West Village joint after both his grandfathers. (The male-relative nomenclature seems to be a thing, by the way. See Seymour Burton, Gus & Gabriel, and Abe & Arthur, opening soon in the meatpacking district). Is it surprising then, in such a manly milieu, to find not one but two kinds of quiche? Not at all, according to chef James McDuffee, who last worked at Bouchon Bakery, home to a world-class version of that quivering egg-custard tart. “Real men eat quiche,” asserts the chef, whose “American brasserie” menu is a little Southern (shrimp and grits), a little French (pâté, rillettes), and entirely what Stulman categorizes as “the foods Jim and I love.” Click through for a glimpse of the menus (breakfast, brunch, and lunch launching soon) and a look at the space.
