Sushi Bistro Opens Tonight After Year-Long Delay

The much-delayed second location of Sushi Bistro opens tonight on 24th Street, and if you were thinking of making cracks about how long it took, Chef/Owner Sheen Zhou will probably beat you to the punch. Still, in spite of rampant permitting delays, Zhou plans to open the doors at 5 p.m., offering a similar menu to that of the Balboa Street location. He said eventually he wants to serve “more eco-friendly sustainable food,” but for now, he’s just happy to be opening.

Zhou is not shy in pinning the blame for the year-long delay squarely on the city. “Permits, planning department, the city just doesn’t help small businesses to speed up the process,” he said yesterday as he sweated through the finishing touches of the renovation. “Even though the city always complains they have no money, they have a deficit or whatever, but they don’t help small businesses to open and generate tax.”

Sushi Bistro will be open from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 2809 24th St. Call them at (415) 282-2001
