Izakaya’s Michael Schulson Prefers Philly over New York, A.C

Meal Ticket has the scoop on chef Michael Schulson’s upcoming Philly project, Sampan. Schulson currently runs the three-belled Izakaya at the Borgata in A.C. and was previously the executive chef at Pod and Buddakan New York; it appears that the glamour of New York and, um, Atlantic City, weren’t enough to keep him from the magnetic draw of the Illadelph. Schulson tells Meal Ticket: “My son was born in Philly. My wife is from Philly. I still own my house in Philly. I had enough of being in New York, and wanted to come back here — Philly is my home.” Expect creative Asian fare, a liquor license and a November-ish opening.
