Flour + Water Gets a Rave; Wexler’s Impresses

• Michael Bauer’s expected rave of Flour + Water ran Sunday with three stars for the food and two and a half for the service, for an overall three stars. Bauer gushed through the menu section by section, but unlike Meredith Brody, he seems especially impressed with the items actually containing flour and water (ie. the pizza and pastas): “[Chef Thomas] McNaughton and [Pizzaiolo John] Darsky know how to take flour and water to new heights.” [SF Chronicle]

• Patricia Unterman quite liked Wexler’s “high-concept” barbecue style. She found the smoke-themed menu to be more delicate than you’d expect from barbecue, and the drinks and desserts handled with care. The sculpture on the ceiling really seems to have affected her, though. She compares it favorably with “vertebrae [and] charred bones.” [SF Examiner]
