Checking In With Ilan Hall and Stephanie Izard

Some news from Top Chef alums: According to Grub Street Los Angeles, the Gorbals, the project that Ilan Hall rather vividly described as “Old Jewish food date-raped by bacon,” now has a location (not in New York as originally planned), a website, and some menu items (bacon-wrapped matzoh balls, haggis burgers, and chicken-skin sandwiches, among others). Meanwhile, Stephanie Izard of the Drunken Goat inaugurates the Chicago Diet by describing what she ate during her recent trip to New York as well as back home in Chi-Town. Interestingly, McDonald’s grosses her out but she takes culinary inspiration from Taco Bell.
