33 Club: Kleiner’s Newest Restaurant Has a Name

In the Jerry Kleiner tradition of not naming his restaurants until the doors are about to open (which always kind of reminded us of the apocryphal pioneer thing of not naming your babies until you’re sure they’ll survive infancy), the restaurateur has christened his behemothic Old Town restaurant on the eve of its opening: it’ll be called 33 Club, reports Elizabites — no relation, we presume, to the infamous Disneyland restaurant of the same name. Not only did Miss Bites snag the name (which she tells us Kleiner chose in homage to 1933, the year prohibition ended), she got a first-hand look at chef Daniel Kelly’s Midwestern-inspired menu — besides Kelly’s signature lobster-stuffed chicken, keep an eye out for “braised veal ragoût; $22, Matidore steak sandwich; $12 and broiled Lake Superior Whitefish filet; $18 .. and $3 bar snacks like deviled eggs and bacon popcorn, and an intriguing sounding dish called the whitefish hoagie.” The restaurant is looking to open some time next week — maybe Monday, maybe not.
