What’s With The Boycott Drama At Grocery Bistro?

You don’t see this every day: 312 Dining Diva reports that the parents of The Grocery Bistro chef Andre Christopher have parked their van outside the restaurant, the vehicle bearing a verbose sign calling for boycott. The picture’s fuzzy, but here’s what we can make out:

Please Boycott The Grocery Bistro — Chef Andre Christopher was left with no choice but to leave the Bistro Sunday June 16th to go to a new and paying venture. The owner of the Grocery Bistro has not paid Chef Christopher since opening over 9 weeks ago. [illegible] have [illegible] promises have [illegible] before and new threats have been made by the owner/manager Marcel [illegible] against the chef personally and regarding his new future venture. He only took what he brought with him [illegible] the labor was [illegible] of the unethical [illegible] of Marcel …

Well, you get the gist: Grocery Bistro owner Marcel Illegible-Last-Namer (we’re reading Somer-something) has allegedly withheld pay from Chef Christopher, and now Christopher is gone gone gone. We noted a few weeks ago that Chef Christopher is partnering with Branko Podrumedic to turn the former Continental Cafe space into Little Bucharest Bistro — which makes us wonder for how long Christopher has known what side his bread was buttered on. (Or not, as the case appears to be.) Calls and emails to The Grocery Bistro management and personnel are currently going unreturned; we’ll update as we hear.
