The North End Wins Some, Loses Some

Dessert emporium Finale will not go through with its plans to open a North End location, but the neighborhood will be getting an Al Dente spin-off, reports the Herald. Finale president Paul Conforti cites (surprise!) the economy as the reason the company is pulling out of the Martignetti Liquors space, saying that after Finale’s Natick Collection spot closed in March, “spending three quarters of a million dollars to open a new restaurant is a risk. We decided that we’d rather stay with our three existing locations and focus on them rather than spreading ourselves too thin.” Meanwhile, Al Dente’s owner, Joe Bono plans to open Spazzo, an affordable 40 seater serving sandwiches, pastas, pizzas, and salads, in the old Trani Ice Cream space.
