Sandwich Showdown: Republic Adds Num Pang–Like Sandwich Stand

Union Squares Thai juggernaut Republic has decided to get in on that sweet Vietnamese-sandwich action, presumably after seeing the lines over at Num Pang a few blocks away. Theyve installed a sandwich shop immediately inside the restaurant, and (as you can see in our photo of the counter) VIETNAMESE SANDWICHES TO GO is now stenciled on the window. The sandwiches (served till 4 p.m.) are well beyond what youd see at a Chinatown bnh m joint in fact, like at Num Pang, theres even a catfish variety. Take a look at the menu below.
