More Muffulettas: St. John Frizell Will Open Fort Defiance on Saturday

Even before we get a chance to digest the Italian-style muffuletta at Little Italy newcomer Acquedolci, Eater follows up on a Time Out opening and finds out that St. John Frizell’s Red Hook café, Fort Defiance, will open this weekend, but without booze and only during the mornings and afternoons at first. As Gothamist noted earlier in a post that overoptimistically had it opening with cocktails in May, Frizell (a Pegu Club alum) plans to serve a New Orleans–style muffuletta as well as breakfast pastries from Colson Patisserie, Counter Culture coffee, and other sandwiches and salads. No word on what the flash photography policy will be, but we’re amused to see that Metromix’s photographer (shooting a slideshow of Red Hook bars) got an earful from the bartender at Sunny’s.
