Zagat brings confirmation that as previously indicated, Payard is closing after more than a decade: “Unfortunately,” reads the release, “[Payard] is forced to close his operation due to untenable rent increases being levied by his landlord. Alexandra Payard will continue to operate her catering business, Tastings, as usual and will employ some of the patisserie and bistro staff.” Meanwhile, we’ve received a release confirming that Jarnac closed on Saturday as planned, also owing to landlord problems. That statement follows.

Dear Friends

THANK YOU!

Over the past few weeks we have had a great time taking care of our many regular and our newfound fans in what has become the “Jarnac Way”!
We would all like to thank you for showing such great support as we finally reached our closing date last night - Saturday 27th June 2009. (You missed a great party if you weren’t there!)

Personally, I would like to thank Maryann and my crew, every one of whom has stayed with us right to the end and shown amazing loyalty and dedication to Jarnac and to our customers. If any of you know of any job opportunities out there, they all come highly recommended by Maryann and me.

On a lighter note, if you would like to own a little (or big!) piece of Jarnac, we will be holding a “Tag Sale” on Monday 29th June and Tuesday 30th June - Noon to 4pm - and selling off everything from equipment to plates, silverware and glasses, so come by and browse if the fancy takes you.

Meanwhile, your details will be kept on the Jarnac database, unless you tell us otherwise, and we will keep in touch going forward.

Once again, a huge MERCI for everything from all of us – it has been a great pleasure taking care of you.

If you would like to contact any of our crew, just shoot me an e-mail at tonypowe@jarnacny.com and I can forward it on.

Cheers
Tony, Maryann and the Jarnac Crew
