Last week Gothamist noticed that Stumptown’s Red Hook roastery was getting closer to opening, and there have been a couple of other developments in coffeeland too. Counter Culture tells us they’ve opened their first Manhattan training center (in Chelsea at 37 West 26th Street, Suite 400). It’ll host cuppings every Friday, and tonight, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., there’ll be an opening party (coffee farmer Aida Batlle of Finca Mauritania in Santa Ana, El Salvador was expected to attend, but couldn’t make it in the end). You can find a schedule of the center’s espresso, milk chemistry, and cupping labs here. Meanwhile, the Observer reported recently that another progressive brand, Think Coffee, will open its third store at 123 Fourth Avenue, near 12th Street. All this, and Abraço’s new roastery too!
