Bruni Out As Times Critic

Frank Bruni is giving up his role as New York Times restaurant critic, according to a memo obtained by Gawker. Editor Bill Keller explained that the release of Bruni’s memoir Born Round: The Secret History of a Full-Time Eater in August is “a natural time to move on.” Bruni will join the magazine as a writer-at-large. “As for the restaurant beat, the search for a successor begins now,” Keller says. So many possibilities, but would the Times continue its new-media experiment by hiring, say, a food blogger? It worked for Ross Douthat and Brian Stetler!
