Whisper Finale Expected To Be Violent

Would you want to go to a place billed as an “ultra lounge?” Yeah, us neither. Barf. Fortunately for everyone, this city will be one such hellhole down as of next month, when Whisper has announced it will close its doors for good. But until it does shutter, it seems the onus is on San Francisco cops to maintain order around the violence-prone venue.

Whisper, for the uninitiated, is that portal to the seventh level around Florida and Mariposa streets, where you can pay $250 for two bottles of booze and a night’s worth of dancing and bullet-dodging. The club and its surrounding area have been the scene to violence, including a shooting.

The San Francisco Examiner reported today that police expect more violence to go down before the club closes its doors May 3:

“This location has potential for additional violence or casualty due to overcrowding, lack of adequate security or the presence of persons motivated/encouraged to commit violent acts by the type of entertainment and or music,” Mission Police Station Capt. Stephen Tacchini wrote in an April 14 memo that was obtained by The Examiner.

So if you live in the area, you may want to consider staying in for the night, or heading out well before party time on May 3.
