The $18 Dinner Party

If you haven’t checked out this week’s Sun-Times article on how to throw a dinner party for six spending just $18 (the new cost of admission to the Art Institute), please do so posthaste. Writer Janet Rausa-Fuller brought on board Food on the Dole blogger (and former Uncommon Ground chef) Hugh Amano to put together the menus (a sit-down dinner of veggie lasagna and homemade bread, a grazing party with pork rillettes, crudite, and banana cream pudding). Amazingly (but perhaps unsurprisingly, considering his skills), he pulls it off — even including alcohol — for within five cents of the target price.

Now, finding a restaurant that will serve dinner for six under $18 — that’s another challenge entirely.
