In the magazine this week, Adam Platt prefers the tapas in the café part of La Fonda del Sol to the more traditional, predictable dining room, where “many of the dishes are standard expense-account favorites.” If you, too, have developed a hankering for bánh mì, Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld sacrificed their dietary health to find ten of the city’s best examples of the sandwich. Rob and Robin also introduce us to three new restaurants this week: the Roman-inspired trattoria, Emporio; Bodhi Tree, an East Village Thai venture from the duo who own EM Thai in Carroll Gardens and Rice Thai Kitchen in Park Slope; and a bar-oriented menu at Nios in midtown. Those observing Passover this week can try Joe Dobias’s recipe for matzo brei on their seder table. Finally, if warm weather draws you downtown, get supplies and sustenance at Smile. The Robs call it a “serenely elegant place to get a caffeine fix.”
