Happy Eggs Benedict Day

Did you know that today is National Eggs Benedict Day? Well, it is. For such a brunch-centric city as San Francisco, one would think there would be a parade or something, but no. Just another Thursday

According to Wikipedia,

Lemuel Benedict, a retired Wall Street stock broker, claimed that he had wandered into the Waldorf Hotel in 1894 and, hoping to find a cure for his morning hangover, ordered “buttered toast, poached eggs, crisp bacon and a hooker of hollandaise.”

Heh. There were other suggestions as to the origin, but they dind’t involve inappropriate double entendres, so they have no place here.

Maybe when they make a National Burrito Day, SF will get it together to celebrate. Meanwhile, you can throw your own little party at any of the 124 restaurants on our site that serve the dish.
