President Obama personally handed out oatmeal-raisin cookies to a bipartisan group of members of Congress at a Super Bowl party last weekend, reports the New York Times. Although the party chatter focused more on the game at hand than the details of the President’s stimulus package, one can only assume that the party in general and the cookies specifically were intended as a goodwill gesture, and one that worked! (Witness Pennsylvania Republican Charlie Dent’s mancrush: “We had a wonderful time. He seems like a guy you could have a lot of fun with.”) We categorically approve of Obama’s scheme.
Whether your frenemy coworkers are elected officials or office drones, the odds are good that they love cookies. Unlike Barack Obama, you probably don’t have a full kitchen staff at your beck and call, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go on your own diplomatic cookie tour. Boston has more than its fair share of top-notch bakeries. Stop by Boston Chipyard (for classic chocolate chip), flour bakery + cafe (homemade Oreos!), or Tatte Fine Cookies & Cakes (mmm, fig biscotti) to curry your coworkers’ favor.
