Joe Bastianich has teamed up with massive Piedmontese market Eataly to open a Manhattan location and other branches throughout North America, the ’bag reports. Eataly NYC will be a 60,000-square-foot locavore’s paradise with, like the Turin original, an indoor greenmarket of sorts, highbrow groceries, and prepared foods. Bastianich says he found an agreeable space “somewhere between Union Square and Madison Square Park.” (Make your guesses in the comments.) Eataly had plans to settle in Midtown West back in the fall of 2007, but the store never materialized. Bastianich’s involvement could bring the dream project closer to fruition.
