Bánh Mì Buzz: Hanco’s and An Choi Are Now Open

Back in December we brought good news for Brooklyn and Manhattan bánh mì lovers alike — Hanco’s was coming to Park Slope, and Vietnamese street-eats spot An Choi was to open on the Lower East Side. Well, over the weekend they both started welcoming customers. An Choi is in neighborhood-preview mode at 85 Orchard Street, near Broome Street, and while they aren’t yet serving pho (that’ll come sometime this week), you can order a porchettalike crispy pig sandwich, among others. The sandwiches aren’t overly packed like at Bánh Mì Saigon, but what the pork one, which is sure to become a signature, lacks in heft, it more than makes up for in flavor. More when the joint fully opens. Meanwhile, over in Park Slope, the second location of Hanco’s, at 350 Seventh Avenue, at 10th Street, only opened this Saturday but there are already feverishly excited reports on the Brooklynian message board.
