Our House…In The Middle Of Our Street

What kind of ridiculous bar lets you hog their comfy couches, show up and play Wii and pool at all times of day, and features a bingo-like game called Chickenshoot on Sundays? We’ll give you one guess.

Our House West is one of those hipster dives along Comm Ave. you either frequent with style or didn’t know existed. It’s basement-ish space and vibe make you feel like you wandered into a large house party, and that seems to be the entire point. Board games are handed out to patrons as they’re available, and the full bar serves a variety of funky cocktails, even if all the kids seem to prefer cheaper booze like PBR. Tell them it’s your birthday and you might end up with a free bottle of champagne!

For eats, they’ll turn any burger order into a veggie one. Teriyaki chicken wings and waffle fries put a fun spin on bar fare, and goodies like Caesar wraps almost seem healthy, even with copious dressing inside. Happy hour buy one, get one free appetizers keep us rolling in after a hard day at the office, and the weekend party atmosphere pulls us in from the freezing cold to wait in queue for entry on Fridays and Saturdays.

If you’re no longer in your twenties - existentially, that is - the dark space may skeeve you out a bit. You’re gonna get carded no matter your age, so patiently stand back and consider it a compliment. If you’re a smoker, be warned you’ll have to stand in line to get back in. None of this happens to bother us though. We’re young and drug free. Makes more room at the bar for us.
