Alinea Movie In The Works [Lights, Camera, Achatz!]

Confession: I slacked off a little bit at work today. Instead of duly immersing myself in the spellchecking of menus and blogging of factoids, I took some “me” time to read an interview on Salon.com with the filmmaker of this documentary about Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who (along with Grant Achatz and Hugh Laurie) is a person I am slightly obsessed with, and like to read everything about.

Funny I should mention Grant Achatz there, actually, because here is what was buried in that interview:

What’s next?

I’m starting work on a couple of films. One is about Grant Achatz, the great chef, whose restaurant, Alinea, is in Chicago, and his book is the No. 1 cookbook in America right now. But his personal story is really what’s extraordinary. He’s considered by many to be one of the greatest chefs in the world, and he’s had tongue cancer, and in battling the cancer, he lost the use of his taste buds on his tongue.

Y’all. ALINEA: THE MOVIE. Or, okay, more accurately, GRANT ACHATZ: THE MOVIE. Actually some quick digging reveals that the movie is going to be called “Taste.”

UPDATE: For more on the movie, including comments from Grant Achatz and Alinea partner Nick Kokonas, check out our followup post.
