Andrew Carmellini Will Helm Second Go at Ago

Holy mother! Forget about Andrew Carmellini doing a quiet little spot in Nolita or a quiet little spot anywhere else. The partners at the Greenwich Hotel, who of course include Robert De Niro, have tapped him as chef at the future incarnation of Ago, according to Diner’s Journal. And that isn’t all: “For the new restaurant, Mr. Born, Mr. De Niro and another partner, Ira Drukier, assembled a team of local talent: Josh Picard, of Lever House and Lure Fishbar, will run the front of house, and Ken Friedman, of the Spotted Pig and the John Dory, is the design consultant.” Good God — Ken Friedman is a genius, of course, but design consultant? Have these people been to the John Dory? Word from the higher-ups is that although there were conversations with Vongo, De Niro wanted an Italian chef. And he sure got one. [Diner’s Journal/NYT]
