The city’s quintessential boardwalk bar (and our Best Throwback Bar of 2006) may not be around much longer. According to Coney Island blog Kinetic Carnival, Ruby’s still hasn’t gotten word about whether it will be offered a lease in 2009. When we spoke to bartender Frank Gluska last year, he told us the bar’s owners were hoping that Thor would give them a piece of the new Coney Island — or Phony Island, as it can only be called if a treasure like Ruby’s suffers death by condo. Here’s hoping this year’s Polar Bear Day Party isn’t the place’s last. Because that would be cold-blooded.
