A couple of newish things going on in Frederick Twomeys world Bar Carreras Houston and LaGuardia location, the Spanish wine bar without wine, has finally gotten its beer and wine license, and has been serving twenty Spanish wines by the glass and bottle. And Solex, where Fran Derby was recently executive chef until he departed for Momofuku Ssm, has switched to a menu of $9 (regular) and $12 (large) brick-oven pizzettes. The rundown follows. Our favorite: escargot.
Flamb (with smoked bacon, onions, crme fraiche)
Raclette (soft cows-milk cheese with mashed potatoes)
Goat Cheese (with grape tomatoes)
Fromage (assortment of cheese with hints of truffle)
Tomatoes (with fresh garden herbs)
Arugula & Bayonne Ham (with cheese)
Escargot (snails with oven-roasted garlic, butter, parsley)
Smoked Salmon (with capers and crme fraiche)
Salami (with plum tomato, Gruyere cheese, and black olives)
Be warned, the pies are tasty, but so dainty youll definitely need to order a large if youre pounding Coors Lites. By the way: Could Solex be the only wine bar that serves the Silver Bullet?
