Today in renovations and offshoots: Old Homestead is losing the space that holds its largest dining room and some outdoor seating Eater reports that four months from now, itll be half its original size. That site also has it that Grimaldis Pizzeria is opening a slightly larger financial-district outpost, at 135 John Street, in early 2009. Welcome news for those who won't trek to Dumbo to stand in line, but given the new spots location near the South Street Seaport, one can only assume itll be a shadow of the original, the same way burgers and old-fashioneds at the downtown location of P.J. Clarkes just aint the same.
Finally, speaking of places we wish we could get out to more often, City Room reports that Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, after losing its building to Columbia University development, is relocating to a slightly larger space on the northwest corner of Twelfth Avenue and 125th Street. You could hit it with a rock from the existing Dinosaur, owner John Stage tells the site. Its raw, beautiful, another old meatpacking house. Its a funky building for sure and, as normal, we have a lot of work to do. $2 million worth of work, to be exact.
