A Little Bit of Europe

Their tagline may be a bit generic - what part of Europe? It is a continent, after all - but we nevertheless love Athan’s European Bakery’s two locations, comparable and complimentary, on both sides of the Brighton line. It’s a great lunch spot with a menu full of paninis and fresh salads, and their late night hours make grabbing a sweet snack super easy. Some of our favorites, found at either location, include the Bolero, Citron, and their tasty variety of gelato. Hot or cold espresso drinks are made to order, and be warned: the large hot chocolate comes in something akin to a bowl! Still, one way to keep warm as autumn settles upon us.

Both shops are clean and airy, and the staff at both spots is always helpful and sweet.  We dig the Brighton Center location for usually free street parking and tree branch chandeliers but will always have a soft spot for the Washington Square cafe, right off our beloved C line and a tolerable trek from Coolidge Corner. Stop in to ask about their specialty cakes for any occasion (the wedding ones are amazing!) and grab a steamy cup of joe while you’re there. It makes for one of the better before/after work treats in the boroughs beginning with B.
