Pizza Prices to Rise on April 15?

Governor David Paterson dug in his heels yesterday on the state’s bid to collect unreported sales tax income from cash business, pizzerias among them. The state sent out about 10,000 notices suggesting proprietors should take a second look at their tax forms and, nudge nudge, fill them out more accurately this time. The bad news for drunks and fans of mobile eating is that the state’s pressure on doughslingers could lead to yet another rise in the cost of a slice, the first since the cost-of-flour adjustment from earlier this year. Historically, a rise in the cost of pizza also suggests that a hike in subway fares is on the horizon. Figures that the MTA would be behind this somehow.
