Rusty Knot Trims Menu, Icon at W Goes ‘Recession-Proof’

The Rusty Knot and the W are both reacting to this week’s economic news as you’d expect: by updating their menus. Over on the West Side, Ken Friedman and Taavo Somer’s erstwhile dive bar will pare down what’s available from the kitchen as of Sunday. On the chopping block: the iceberg wedge, pulled-pork and chicken-liver sandwiches, and shrimp cocktail, though thankfully the pretzel-dog special will remain.

We hear that Icon at the W on 39th Street at Lexington (a.k.a. The Court), meanwhile, will go BYOB on Mondays. They’re also launching a six-course “6 for $66” tasting menu, set to change weekly and run through the end of the year. They’ve dubbed the tandem “recession-proof dining” — though to us, it seems more like the Mark-of-the-Beast special.
