Brunch

Mama’s Will Add Brunch, Chicago Dawgs, and Maybe Another Location

Comfort-grub spot Mama’s Food Shop has run pretty much on autopilot since Jeremiah Clancy bought it from longtime owner Michael Rosenfeld a year ago, but now that Clancy’s brother Brendan has moved from Chicago and is taking on the role of executive chef, you can expect some changes for the better. Come October, there will be weekly Midwest-inspired specials such as Chicago hot dogs (that should please Alan Richman, who went on about them at length yesterday), Italian beef, Sloppy Joes, and BBQ ribs.

Brendan, a culinary-school grad who helped open the W Hotel in Mexico City, will also start a higher-end catering business for the duo’s art-world friends (Jeremiah was a member of Fischerspooner and has a part in Ajay Naidu’s upcoming film, Ashes). But perhaps best of all, the place will finally open on Sundays for brunch — and the brothers hope to open a second location in Williamsburg within a year. Mama’s Bar, meanwhile, is no longer associated with the restaurant, so there may be changes there, too…
