When we passed the Eldridge, the other night, the Luv 24/7 awning was off and purple and red fluorescent lightbulbs were up in its place. Intriguing! Now Guest of a Guest reveals that designer Matt Levine’s reservation-only lounge will make up for its scant seating (just thirteen tables accommodating 150 people) with all sorts of wacky amenities: butlers, chaperones, porters, table attendants, and a hospitality consultant. We’re not sure what any of that means — and we’re not sure we care about being driven home in a free Escalade (well, maybe the half of Grub Street that lives in Ditmas Park does) — but this much is exciting: The cocktails will come from the renowned Charlotte Voisey of London’s esteemed Apartment 195 as well as our own Gramercy Park Hotel. At the end of the day, however, we suspect the lounge’s success will rest firmly on whether its $650,000 Champagne wall is worth more or less than Goldbar’s wall of golden skulls.
