The Eldridge Peels Back Its Intimidating Façade

When we passed the Eldridge, the other night, the Luv 24/7 awning was off and purple and red fluorescent lightbulbs were up in its place. Intriguing! Now Guest of a Guest reveals that designer Matt Levines reservation-only lounge will make up for its scant seating (just thirteen tables accommodating 150 people) with all sorts of wacky amenities: butlers, chaperones, porters, table attendants, and a hospitality consultant. Were not sure what any of that means and were not sure we care about being driven home in a free Escalade (well, maybe the half of Grub Street that lives in Ditmas Park does) but this much is exciting: The cocktails will come from the renowned Charlotte Voisey of Londons esteemed Apartment 195 as well as our own Gramercy Park Hotel. At the end of the day, however, we suspect the lounges success will rest firmly on whether its $650,000 Champagne wall is worth more or less than Goldbars wall of golden skulls.
