Astoria’s Hell Gate Social Adds Sandwiches

Hell Gate Social, the Astoria spot that reminds us of the late Siberia in its anonymous façade and artsy-debaucherous spirit (minus the pee smell and with more ambitious drinks), has started serving $6 sandwiches Wednesdays through Sundays. The baguettes are piled with ingredients bought fresh every day, including merguez sausage (perhaps a nod to when the bar used to be a Greek club and lamb was roasted outside), turkey with applewood bacon, beef with horseradish cream cheese, and vegetables. This puts the boîte right up there with Huckleberry Bar for precious cocktail-sammy flavor combos!
