Brooklyn Flea just opened, and, in a few months, bargain hunters can eat at a new restaurant at 7 Greene Avenue, just off of Fulton Street. Former Perry Street sous-chef Tyler Kord describes his concept as “New American, with a little Hungarian, some Korean, and a bit of Wisconsin thrown in.” His time in Vongerichten’s kitchen is also an influence, he says. “I learned about a lot of the intense behind-the-scenes preparation to make a simple-looking dish.” That explains why he refers to his cooking style as “casual badass.” Don’t try to make a reservation just yet — the restaurant is full of plywood and in need of a liquor license. But the principals are in place, including former Perry Street pastry chef Amanda Clark, Weather Up designer Matthew Maddy, and Lil’ Frankie’s GM Matt Suchomski.
