The city’s strip clubs are being picked off one by one by the SLA, but if broker Nigel Shamash has his way, a new one will be coming to the Upper East Side (of all places!). Shamash posted a Craigslist ad offering a 2,500-square-foot space for $1.6 million in key money, plus $6,000 monthly rent. The ad claims the space has one of just nine “unlimited entertainment licenses” in the city, meaning it can be used as a gentleman’s club.
A broker and lawyer who work closely with adult businesses say they don’t believe there’s any such thing as an “unlimited entertainment license” (the Department of Buildings evaluates these things on a case-by-case basis) and said that if the building is within a 500-foot radius of Scores (we’ve heard it’s within a five-block radius), it probably won’t be able to legally operate as an adult business. Even if someone has found a loophole to Giuliani’s maddening 60-40 laws, we’re thinking opening a gent club in this neighborhood is going to be a very uphill (up-pole?) battle.
