Watch out New York: it’s BBQ season again..

Robert Fernandez’s White Trash BBQ blog has been largely dormant this winter, but increased activity shows that the smoky season is here. He wrote an in-depth review of Wildwood Barbeque, the first such to show up on the Web. It’s a rave: “I don’t think I’ve ever had a better rib in a restaurant … The ribs were so good, that I was using Wildwood’s ribs to teach my daughter how competition barbecue is judged. A RESTAURANT RIB.”

Fernandez also announced details on the city’s only BBQ contest, Grillin’ on the Bay, on June 7. Sponsored by RUB, Grillin’ on the Bay, which was in danger of cancellation after losing its location, will be held at the St. Mark’s School on Avenue Z and 18th Street in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Technically, it’s a grilling contest, but every year most of the entries are standard barbecue items. If you think you might want to be a judge, contact Fernandez via his blog for details.
