Five Nights in Queens

There was a time when just the words “Queens Restaurant Week” would have provoked laughter. But those days are no more: Beyond its cornucopia of dirt-cheap ethnic eats, the Big Borough hosts a range of good restaurants, many of which are offering three-course dinner specials for $19.86, starting tonight.

There’s a full list of participating eateries here, but there are only five nights to take advantage of the deal. Our choices are as follows.

Water’s Edge Restaurant
This big, posh restaurant has commanding views of Manhattan and serves top-flight local foie gras, Mediterranean bronzini, and other luxe entrées.

Woo Chon Restaurant
This always-crowded Flushing institution serves some of the city’s better-executed Korean barbecue.
41-19 Kissena Blvd., Flushing; 718-463-0803.

Malagueta
One of the city’s most reliable, and more refined, Brazilian restaurants — alas, they only serve the feijoada stew on Saturday nights.

La Fusta
New York’s oldest Argentine eatery serves huge portions of nearly every cut of beef, prepared expertly, and served with a zippy chimichurri.

Happy Buddha Vegetarian Restaurant
This big, pleasant Flushing vegetarian restaurant specializes in well-executed mock meats.
